BIZARRE

Inspired by the “Bizarre” silk patterns that were woven in Lyon and Lucca between 1710 and 1720. These patterns were influenced by the Indienne and the Indonesian textiles brought back from Asia by the ambassadors’ of Louis XIV in the late 17th century. They all had a whimsical asymmetric character.

CHINESE BOX

Derived form the chinese coin and ornamental details of samurai armor. This pattern can be found throughout Asia and in Asia Minor, in miniatures and in Indonesian textiles where vestiges of the Chinese trade are apparent and integrated into the local iconography. It is appealing and satisfying in its mellowed geometric form and harmonizes perfectly with 18th century furniture.

QUEEN OF SHEEBA

A 15 year old English girl was sent to Barbados in 1685.
She was captured by the moroccans who on finding out her virginity took her to the Emperor Mulay Ismail who wanted her for his Harem. She resisted and was severely punished. Ultimately subdued, She bore the Emperor 2 children one of which subsequently became Emperor himself. She lasted past the usual age of 30 (age of replacement) and became know in Barbados as “Balqees”, arabic for Queen of Sheba.
